Seriously!

Okay...just a warning- if you happen to like Sen. Chris Buttars, or if you happen to think conservatives are right no matter what- just ignore this post because a rant is coming that you won't like.

Over the last couple years, the person I have been closest to hating is Christ Buttars. He just drives me insane. I thought for sure the people in his district would not re-elect him, but they are apparently the type of people who vote straight party ticket no matter what. Or, even worse, they agree with him. This is what they were apparently okay with:

-He said in an interview: "Brown v. Board of Education is wrong to begin with." I'm sorry, but I think this ruling is one of the best in our nation's history. I'm sure most people would agree with me.

-We all remember the "black baby" comment from the last session, right? He did apologize, which is great. However, with all the atrides our nation has made there is too much of white=good and black=bad, and his comment just perpetuated that.

-I know our country was founded on Christian ideals. However, we have to realize that our nation is not solely Christian anymore. This last Christmas season, he tried to bring legislation forward that would require companies to use "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays." I don't think Christians should be offended is they are told the latter. I, for one, am not. Our country has many people and therefore many religions.

With all that, he still got re-elected. I guess I'm not too surprised. I don't live in his distrcit specifically, but I live in the same area. However, I was hopeful. And this morning, I was hopeful he would resign in light of his latest scandal, but of course he didn't. He compared gays to radical Muslims in an interview, and then said that gays are America's greatest threat. Are you kidding me? Seriously?!

He also said that gay people have no morals, which is absolutely not true. They just don't have HIS morals....which is okay with me, because I don't either. The picture I have up top clearly shows his hatred for gay people. Just look at how he is looking at this gay woman as she addresses the Senate.

At least he got taken off his post as chair of the Judiciary Committee, which apparently hears many of the bills regarding gay rights. Who knows why he was chair of this committee for so long knowing he had such a negative bias? It says on the S.L. Trib website that he refuses to apologize and disagrees with his removal from the Committee. I, for one, am so glad he has been removed. I'm sure we haven't heard the last from him though. It seems like he has a scandal every couple of months.

Basically, my response to him and all his scandals is "Seriously?!"

Holiday

I love holidays! It's so nice to have a day off from work and school. We had a pretty nice day. We went to breakfast with our friends Karen and Steve, which is always fun. We came home and just relaxed. I read a lot from a book called Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. I'm almost done, and I'm really enjoying it. It's young adult fiction about "Big Brother" and national security. The link I have posted is a link to the actual novel. The author has posted it in its entirety online, which I think is pretty awesome. We had plans to have dinner and a movie with Nicki, Andy, and Jackson. I made pulled pork sandwiches and mashed potatoes, while Adam tried his hand at homemade french fries with the leftover potatoes. It was all pretty good if I say so myself. After dinner, we went to see Coraline. It was pretty cool, especially with it being in 3D.

Today is also special because I am 20 weeks pregnant! Halfway there! I have to admit, since I started feeling better, it feels as if it is going by faster. Luckily, most of the fatigue and m/s stopped after I entered the second trimester, which I am extremely grateful for. I really only have three complaints right now. My first complaint is that I feel like I just look fat and not pregnant. I keep hearing in the next week or two that will change. Not that I want to look bigger, I just want to look pregnant and not chubby. My second complaint is the lower back pain (left side) I get almost every day now, especially after working. It's not horrible, but it's like a dull ache. The third is how itchy my skin is where it is stretching. I'm not complaining though. It's great to feel the baby move around. I have more energy, and I am just getting more excited as July gets closer!

Happy Love Day!

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day. Adam and I celebrated last night because he had to work tonight. We went to a Middle Eastern restaurant called Mazza that we had never been to. We liked it a lot. After that, we saw Romeo and Juliet at the U. As a student, we can go an hour before curtain and get tickets for $5. We were first in line for the student rush, and right before 7, people must have called and cancelled their tickets, because a pair of seats had opened up on the 3rd row. It was good. We especially liked the acting of Juliet, her nurse, and Mercutio. We've never seen it in play format, only the movies. It was a little long, especially when you know what's coming. It was still a great night though.

Tonight, because Adam had to work anyways, I volunteered to be a great sister/aunt and babysit. :) I watched 3 of my nephews while Justin, Jody, Nicki and Andy all went out to dinner and a movie. It was fun, especially when Family Guy came on, and one of my nephews took me seriously when I said maybe I should name my baby Stewie!

One Thing

One thing I won’t let my husband buy me: probably jewelery (unless I have approved it)

One thing I would love to have, but I probably will never have: a passport full of stamps

One thing you will never find in my closet: I guess probably stuff like halter tops or bikinis

One thing I would choose if I were having elective surgery: either a tummy tuck or a breast reduction

One thing I would like to change if I could: my lack of willpower when it comes to food sometimes

One thing I would change as a mom: not quite a mom yet, but I'm sure I will mess up a million times over and have plenty of things I wish I could have changed

One thing I would do if I had unlimited money: travel

One thing I that I will not do again: there are a lot of things I probably won't do ever again, but I'm not a big fan of saying never

One thing that I would like to do: have a good birthing experience

One thing I could do without: negativity

One thing I love to smell: a freshly mowed lawn (I know I'm weird)

One thing I would do if I won the lottery: buy a house

One thing that infuriates me: people who are misinformed about labor and birth and question my decisions even though I am doing a ton of research

One thing that I love about winter: hot chocolate

One thing I am addicted to: sugar

One thing I pray for: change (in my life and in the world around me)

One thing I wish I had: more hours in the day

One thing I would do again, regardless of the pain: question myself and find my true self (what I believe in, not necessarily what I am told to believe in)

One thing that I absolutely hate to do: drive in the snow

One thing that is weird about me: I have tons of moles

One thing that I need help on: saving more money

One thing I find most relaxing: getting a massage from Adam

One thing that could get me in trouble: baby clothes

One thing that annoys me: parents who leave their children to roam around the library alone and make a mess, or even worse, get lost

One thing I dread; therefore, don’t do very often: deep cleaning

One thing that I have learned, but still sometimes forget: to keep my dignity, even in my sruggles and arguments

Baby Names

This is a board at my work where people have been suggesting baby names since we found out he is a boy. There are some on there that I really like and am considering(not):

In all seriousness, there are some that I like. However, Adam and I don't agree on a lot of names. I've known this since before I was even pregnant when we would just mention names. He vetoes a lot of my names. However, we do have a name that we keep coming back to that we both like- Bennett. It's not set in stone or anything yet, but I would be surprised if we decided on something else.

The Notebook

Every once in awhile, Adam gets trapped on YouTube and just watches video after video. Well, he sent me this link on one of those days two weeks ago. At the time, I was also IMing my friend Kimberly, so I shared it with her. We therefore decided we should watch The Notebook. Last night was the night. Both Adam and her husband were at work, and her boys were in bed. We are both pregnant, so I thought we should be entitled the enjoy our movie with treats.



We pigged out, swooned over how hot Ryan Gosling is and how romantic his character is, and chatted until long after the movie was over (1:30 am, to be precise...half an hour after Adam called me to tell me he was off). It was a very fun night.
