A Wrinkle in Time

I just finished the Time quartet. Wow- what amazing books. I especially loved A Wrinkle in Time and Many Waters. First off, it's surprising I enjoyed a science fiction/fantasy series so much. Usually I don't. Second, I am surprised I liked Many Waters so much, seeing as it is based on the story of Noah and the ark and I sometimes have a hard time believing in the literality of scriptural stories.

Anyways, these books were great. I thought the stories themselves were well-written, except for A Swiftly Tilting Planet being a little hard to follow with characters from all different times tied together with some similar names. However, even that book redeemed itself in the end when the author puts what I took to be the overlying theme of all 4 books into the words of one of her characters: "What happens in one time can make a difference in what happens in another time, far more than we realize... Nothing, no one, is too small to matter. What you do is going to make a difference."

I think about that often. I worry about if I have made the right choices, I feel regret over past choices, I wonder if I will make a difference, etc. What I need to remember is that of course everyone makes a difference. And as to my choices, well, they have led me to who I am today, and I actually like who I have become right now. :)

By the way, yes, I should have read these books a long time ago as Kerri mentioned in her comment in my last post. :) There are too many amazing books I have not yet read, so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Just so everyone knows, I have not read the entirety of The Chronicles of Narnia....I know, horrible, right? I think I have read the first three and got about halfway through the fourth and stopped for some reason. That's another one I know I need to read someday.

You would like Til We Have Faces (CS Lewis)...a retelling of Cupid and Psyche that I really like. Lots of layers. And you need to read Operating Instructions (Anne Lamott), since you're pregnant and liberal, too. It made my whole pregnancy with Kate. (It's more about her son's first year, but it starts with some pregnancy stuff and is soooo funny and sarcastic and irreverent and touching.)
